He was a teacher, writer and politician who excelled in the field of history. After completing his degree in Historical and Philosophical Sciences in Coimbra, he taught History at the Industrial and Commercial School of Funchal. He was member of the City Council of Funchal and vice president of the municipality. In 1949 he published the critical essay “History as a formative science” and in 1952, “Remembering a journey…”, the result of a lecture that he made on the City Council of Funchal, reporting a trip he made to Angola. He also published the article “Art and artistic creation” as a result of his passion for Art History, which he also taught.
